  • Managing Daily Operations For Infection Control
    • Suggest and/or initiates quality improvement studies and follow-up needed to minimize infections.
    • Consult on infections with nursing staff as needed.
    • Collect data, completing various audits and summarizing results for infections in residents and/or staff.
    • Prepares and submit reports as required for mandated reportable infections (to state department of health) as well as internal reports for quality assurance purposes.
    • Respond to concerns about infections in a timely manner.
    • Educate staff on infection control principles as well as including using quality audits when indicated.
    • Oversee flu and pneumonia vaccination programs for residents and staff as indicated.
    • Ensure tuberculosis screening and other infection related policies re current and followed by staff.
  • Managing Work Teams (infection control committee or team)
    • Act as liaison between infection control and/or committees.
    • Provide individuals and/or teams with direction, encouraging, teamwork and collaboration.
    • Provide consultation to individual and/or infection control team as needed.
    • Delegate, monitors and directs assignments for infection control activities.
  • Managing Resources(supplies, equipment, staff, time)
    • Update staff on changes in work or workplace related to infection control activities.
    • Ensure adequate personal protective equipment is available and utilized throughout the facility.
    • Plan and organize work to ensure timely task completion and work flow.
    • Make sound, timely decisions with consideration of ramifications.
    • Analyze issues, prioritize problems and involve appropriate individuals to select plan for resolution, anticipating outcomes and managing consequences.
    • Develop and maintain department budget efficiently.
  • Interpersonal Relations (peers, other departments, families, subordinates, physicians)
    • Provide formal and informal recognition and rewards for employees for positive performance.
    • Participate in providing instruction to enhance on the job learning related to infection control.
    • Work with medical director and physicians to ensure appropriate transmission standards are in place
    • Initiate improvement plans needed and supports staff through training and follow up monitoring.
