On-the-job training
  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards and debris
  • Read and understand blueprints, measuring and basic math skills
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
  • Operate hand tools and power tools: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment
  • Cut materials to specified sizes for installation using power tools
  • Erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level and safely climb ladders and work at heights
  • Transport materials, tools or machines to installation sites, manually or using conveyance equipment
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
  • Apply caulking compounds by hand or caulking guns to protect against entry of water or air
  • Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams with swivel-hooks, hoists, or elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, or stack material
