  • Assess physical conditions of patients to aid in diagnosis or treatment
    • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, height, abdominal girth/waist circumference, head circumference, pulse oximetry, pain scale, etc.

  • Clean medical equipment
    • Clean and sterilize instruments per instructions and dispose of contaminated supplies per policy
    • Prepares contaminated instruments/equipment for transport to reprocessing facility

    • Operate electrocardiogram (EKG), or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests.

  • Give medications or immunizations
    • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician or AAP
    • Handles and stores medication/immunizations correctly
    • Reconciles immunizations between electronic medical record (EMR) and North Carolina Immunization Registry(NCIR)/South Carolina Immunization Registry (SIMON)
    • Request drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
    • Processes and documents sample medications (if applicable)
  • Assist Physician/AAP to perform patient care
    • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures/staples.
    • Apply and change bandages, dressings, or splints
  • Collect biological specimens from patients and conduct diagnostic tests
    • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
    • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
  • Infection Prevention
    • Discard pharmaceutical and hazardous waste in correct locations, using appropriate PPE.
    • Correctly dons/doffs PPE and uses appropriately.
    • Shows understanding of difference between clean and sterile technique and can maintain a sterile field.
    • Performs hand hygiene at each point of patient care
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
    • Uses appropriate abbreviations per policy.
    • Pends orders as appropriate and has knowledge of Smart Sets and Standing Orders.
    • Updates medication listing, allergies, etc. during rooming process.
    • Reviews eCheck in (electronic check in) and Care Everywhere
    • Performs charge capture for billing after performing/completing care.
    • Adds patient education and completes patient letters as directed by Physician/APP
  • Perform clerical work in medical settings
    • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms.
    • Schedule/cancel appointments for patients.
    • Contact other clinics, medical facilities, or departments to schedule patients for tests, treatments, or appointments.
    • Keep financial records or perform other bookkeeping duties, such as handling credit or collections or mailing monthly statements to patients.
